Delegates will soon be gathering for the start of the 15th All American Council of the Orthodox Church in America at noon today in Pittsburgh. If you don’t know, this one is a biggie. It’s not every All American Council that elects a new Metropolitan, much less one that carries out the election in the still unsettled dust cloud of a major financial scandal. I don’t remember much of anything about the previous Councils, not even the 2002 Council at which Metropolitan Herman was elected. Councils are sort of like politics – until an election comes along that you’re really interested in, you don’t pay much attention. You’d have to be living under a rock not to know anything about this one though. Just my opinion, but this election is going to say a lot about the future of the OCA.
If you would like to keep up with things, Ancient Faith Radio will be taping the proceedings for download and making an announcement of the newly elected Metropolitan. The election is scheduled for Wednesday, November 12th at the 10:00 a.m. session.
This is the schedule for today’s meetings and it appears to be exhausting, with meetings, Vespers and Compline, with continuous readings of the Psalms through the night until tomorrow morning’s Divine Liturgy.
