I would so love to meet this way cool priest – a missionary priest who finds his ‘fields of wheat ripe for the harvest’ among the rock music and counterculture scene around Moscow, but which could just as easily be found in any suburban American community. Priest monk Hegumen Sergy Rybko of the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit “opened” for the 2008 Nashestviye rock festival (the Russian Woodstock), not with a warm up set but with prayer and preaching the Orthodox faith (although he can just as easily do that too). The mix of rock and preaching isn’t new in the West, but Fr. Sergy’s approach is reaching hundreds of thousands of young people with the Orthodox faith. Rock on Fr. Sergy. God grant you many years.
